Nicole McDougal was struck by a speeding vehicle that had gone through a red light while she was crossing Aberg Avenue at Shopko Drive. The intoxicated driver, Anthony Moore, did not stop but was later found.

In 1999 when McDougal was 16 years old she experienced a traumatic brain injury in a deadly crash near Janesville that killed seven young people. “It took a long time for her to get to where she was today. Living independently,” McDougal's sister, Jaclyn said. “We were blessed with another 24 years.” She had continued visiting the memorial to honor the seven others who did not survive.
