A 15-year-old polar bear was shot at the Henry Vilas Zoo by a Madison police officer after a mentally ill man climbed into the bear's enclosure.
"Chief" arrived in Madison, when he was one year old, on January 28, 1974 from Jardin De Quebec, Canada.
