The Lost City Subdivision
1915-1920s - Madison, WI

Intended to be a residential subdivision in the 1920s, only a small portion of the houses were ever built. It was done in partly by the Great Depression, but also because of the failure of the planners to account for the swampy soil in much of the area.

Some streets were laid out--and were still included on city maps as late as the 1970s--but were never built; other streets were paved but never had homes built on them and have been slowly reclaimed by nature over the decades.
