36/38 Rhesus monkeys escaped through two broken windows in the basement of the monkey house at Vilas Zoo. Seven were immediately recaptured, five ate drugged bait and were caught
and two remained at large on Fisher and Baird streets, where they were repeatedly spotted swinging from trees. They were finally shot with tranquilizer darts.
