1976 Ice Storm Coats Madison, Legendary Music Artist Pictures for Album
March 4-5, 1976 - Madison, WI

The Midwest was pelted by ice, causing $50.4 million of damage. According to the National Weather Service there was ice accumulations of up to five inches.

Live power lines fell to the ground and trees came crashing down because of the weight of the ice, wind gusts reached 60 mph. Some 600,000 homes lost power, some for up to five days. Twenty-three of the city's 27 water pumping stations were shut down. Even the University of Wisconsin canceled classes.
